About the job Winding Engine Driver
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely and effectively operate the mine winder for the haulage of ore,
persons, materials, and equipment during a shift.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 (with Mathematics and Physical Science) or NQF 4 equivalent is essential.
- DMRE Winding Engine Drivers Certificate is essential.
- Banksman/Onsetter Certificate is essential.
- 3 years working experience in shaft barrel as a Banksman/Onsetter or Shaft Timberman is essential.
- 2 years double drum winder experience is essential.
- 2 years vertical shaft experience is essential.
COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the functions and the operation of signalling
- arrangements and safety devices in a shaft.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the functions of electrical and mechanical components on
- a winder.
- Demonstrate an understanding of shaft signals.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Starts and takes control of a winder.
- Communicates winding engine defects and sub-standard conditions to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
- Performs ore pulling operations from relevant levels.
- Transports people by means of a winder.
- Coordinates winding activities with total process requirements.
- Compiles correct shift reports.
- Escalates abnormal operations problems to appropriate Engineer or Manager.
- Responds to standard signals.
- Assists during breakdowns or emergencies.
- Adheres to applicable legislation with regards to winding plant.
- Maintains the housekeeping standards in the work area.
- Maintains own safe and productive workplace.
- Advises on defects and abnormalities to appropriate Engineer or manager.
- Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
- Participates in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety.
- Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
