PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To lead and maintain the effective and cost-efficient Survey services to production units. To provide a strategic guidance to the Survey department and implement policies and procedures according to the required best practice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12/NQF4 equivalent is essential
  • Chamber of Mines Survey Certificate of Competence is essential.
  • Mineral Surveying Degree or NQF 7 or Equivalent is essential.
  • 10-12 years' experience of which 5 years must be managerial experience (Survey Manager/Ore Accounting Manager) is essential,

COMPETENCIES:

  • Good knowledge of mine planning and layout
  • Working knowledge of relevant technical services, i.e. geology, rock engineering and ventilation
  • Knowledge of mineral resource management practices
  • Relevant legislation, i.e., Mine Health and Safety Act, Water Act, Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, MTRA, etc.
  • Mine surveying Codes of Practice and Standards
  • Good working knowledge of SAMREC/SAMVAL codes
  • Good communication and written skills
  • Excellent Excel, MS Word & PowerPoint skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Analytical skills

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Develops plans to ensure compliance with the relevant strategy, legislation and standards across the operations.
  • Supports the annual business plan for the Survey department with associated objectives that supports the operational business plan.
  • Manages and maintains costs within budget and maintains an effective inventory.
  • Consults with relevant units in order to identify survey needs and any specific requirements.
  • Manages, monitors and evaluates survey progress and performance.
  • Sets survey standards and ensures compliance.
  • Manages the Draughting function.
  • Provides ore accounting services.
  • Compiles reporting of all Impala production figures.
  • Provides operational support to corporate legal team with respect to surface lease and mineral rights matters.
  • Liaises on service issues with affected external stakeholders such as DMPR, Surface Landowners, RBA and other legislators.
