PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To ensure that the following is done at night: monitor, supervise and control the provision of quality health care according to the professional standards laid down by the controlling body and IMS. To supervise all the departments and the wards at night taking the responsibility of the Nursing Service Manager and Hospital Manager as the most senior administrative health care professional at the hospital during the night. To manage and report timeously any events that might compromise the patient care and the hospital reputation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12/NQF4 equivalent is essential
- General, Psychiatry, Community and midwifery Diploma is essential
- Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council is essential
- Nursing Administration Diploma/Degree is desirable
- 3-5 years working experience as a Professional Nurse is essential
- Experience as a Professional Nurse in the mining industry is essential
COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of general nursing care and administration in hospital environment
- Sound knowledge of infection prevention, control protocol and risk management
- Knowledge of nursing principles, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
- MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to make critical decisions and handle emergencies calmly and effectively
- Leadership skills
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Identifies and determines the departmental needs and resources to ensure smooth running of hospital departments.
- Foresees and assists the shift leaders in the wards.
- Monitors and controls activities within the departments by effective supervision, continuous in-service education and coaching in accordance with relevant laws that governs the nursing profession.
- Supervises, co-ordinates and liaises with all departments within IMS organisation and external services providers.
- Ensures that all departments are managed within the budgetary plans.
- Ensures that customers/client's satisfaction is achieved by attending promptly to their concerns and complaints.
- Identifies health and safety risk and develops preventive mechanism.
- Manages the effective general administrative work of the hospital during the night shift.
- Continuously communicates the organisation policies, procedures and changes within the organisation to all relevant stakeholders.
- Provides quality health care services to clients/patients at all levels to care and ensure that the doctors' group is assisted, and proper records are kept.
- Manages and controls the Emergency Rescue vehicles (ambulances).
- Responsible for the emergency rescue at casualty and underground.
- Maintains discipline amongst staff members and delegates to the staff as needed.
- Receives daily reports from staff knocking off duty and hands the daily handover report to the Nursing Services Manager.
- Performs departmental rounds.
- Controls, orders drugs/medication and consumables as per operational needs.
- Ensures that the after-hour's medication room is monitored and kept locked.
- Ensures that the temperature of the medicine room is monitored and recorded.
- Provides a formal report to Nursing Services Manager in the morning.
