PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely inspect and maintain low voltage electrical equipment and machinery.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 or NQF equivalent 4 is essential.
  • Serviceman Certificate (Applicable Training Structures) is essential.
  • 3-years' experience as an Engineering Assistant and job related is essential

COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace
  • Understand fundamentals of electricity
  • Understand fundamentals of general engineering
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the uses and safety aspect associated with flammable

energy sources

  • Demonstrate an awareness of customer service
  • Perform basic fire fighting
  • Perform basic first aid
  • Respond to hazardous and emergency conditions
  • Read, interpret and produce basic engineering drawings
  • Identify, inspect, use, maintain and care for engineering hand tools
  • Select, use and care for engineering measuring equipment
  • Select, use and care for electrical measuring instruments

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Installs batteries.
  • Tests batteries for dead cells and replace defective batteries.
  • Checks battery systems on battery units for water and acid levels.
  • Checks batteries Load and connect batteries in battery bay for charging.
  • Cleans battery bay areas.
  • Maintains battery record systems.
  • Wires domestic electrical circuits.
  • Tests and inspects single phase domestic installations.
  • Inspects, operates and maintains high mast lighting structures
  • Inspects and cleans medium / high voltage yards and enclosures
  • Identifies, inspects and cleans electrical machines
  • Maintains:
  • Direct Current (DC) machines, low voltage switchgears and lighting Systems
  • electrical distribution boards, panels and enclosures
  • transformers, batteries and battery rooms
  • Mills including all its auxiliaries and Compressors
  • Pumps, Crushers and Conveyors
