PURPOSE OF THE JOB:  To supervise activities and shaft maintenance

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

    • Grade 12/Std 10 (NQF Level 4) is essential
    • Blasting Certificate is essential
    • At least 5 years relevant shaft working experience is essential
    • Exposure to trackless shaft operations is essential
    • Valid Medical Certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain one is essential

COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace is essential.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Management System shall be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of the importance of maintaining the shaft in good working order is essential.
  • Knowledge and understanding of blasting products and their usage in an underground hard rock environment is essential.
  • Knowledge of the importance of the safe movement of material and equipment in underground shaft area is essential.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

The successful candidate is responsible for:

  • Taking charge of timber yard, explosives yard and bank area
  • Maintaining a shaft schedule
  • Ensuring compliance to shaft schedule.
  • Conducting shaft examinations (all steelwork, structures, pipes, cables, etc.)
  • Conducting regular checks on all shaft machinery and equipment.
  • Checking and maintaining shaft ore passes.
  • Receiving; handling stores and issuing explosives and accessories at a workplace.
  • Coordinating schedules for the transport of minerals, materials and equipment's.
  • Compiling reports and keeping statistics as may be required.
  • Monitoring individuals and team performances.
  • Monitoring performance against budget (expense control, variances, etc.)
  • Liaising with range of customers and suppliers.
  • Directing and controlling of chairlift and belt attendants.
  • Maintenance of fire hydrants and fire extinguishers in your area of responsibility.
  • Maintenance of refuge bays and escape ways in your area of responsibility
