PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To provide strategic direction as well as financial and commercial (procurement and materials management, community development and compliance, payroll, and property functions) management and governance to support the Marula Operations in order to achieve the strategic and operational objectives of the business and to ensure and drive sustainable financial performance
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 or NQF 4 Equivalent is essential
- Charted Accountancy (CA) or related financial qualification is essential
- MBA or Management Development Programme is essential
- 10 years' experience at a Senior Management level within the mining industry is essential
- Ability and experience to work within an SAP/BW/BPC environment or any other equivalent system experience

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Develops and implements a financial and commercial management strategy for Marula Operations through liaison with all interested parties.
- Tracks performance against the strategy and ensures it is translated into tactical and operational plans for the various functions within the Marula Finance and Commercial teams
- Ensures alignment of commercial and financial strategy to business needs.
- Ensures compliance with all internal and external standards and legislation related to all commerce functions.
- Influences management/leadership to collaborate with stakeholders to address the identified commercial and financial risks.
- Works closely with Senior Management-, employees and the Unions to maintain stakeholder relations
- Identifies and drives continuous improvement in processes in Commercial Services and Financial management, where appropriate, to improve service delivery and well as efficiencies.
- Ensures that the function is staffed with the appropriate skills and that appropriate succession planning is done for key roles.
- Identifies strategic commercial risks through internal -and external audits, investigation and analysis of incidents
- Reviews and monitors action plans to address the risks identified during audits.
- Acts as an inspiration to influence people in the business by motivating staff on all levels in order to achieve world-class business results.
- Provides the leadership and support that is necessary to the business to ensure required change is embraced.
- Ensures effective communication and collaboration within the function and between the other functions.
- Promotes a culture that is results-driven and that drives employee accountability.
- Actively identifies, develops and retains critical skills within the Commercial and Finance (where appropriate) function to ensure the effectiveness of the function and facilitates the achievement of the strategic objectives.
- Ensures that all the necessary financial management systems and processes are in place to ensure sound financial management controls.
- Enhances and optimizes current reporting processes and systems to support timely and accurate financial reporting to support the business.
- Reviews and manages deviations from the budget on month-to-month basis.
- Participates and ensures that the budget for Marula Platinum is aligned to the Marula Platinum strategy as well as the group strategy.
- Proactively identifies potential issues affecting operational and financial performance and takes corrective action with the support of the Marula leadership team.
- Ensures sound balance sheet management on an on-going basis.
- Offers assistance and support in order to revive profitability on all operating units including identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies and manage costs.
- Ensures timeous preparation and reviews all the board and other committee papers for any ad hoc presentations and approval purposes on Marula Platinum
- Provides leadership, management and oversight to ensure that the following commercial functions are strategically aligned, effectively maintained and enhanced:
- Procurement and purchase to pay
- Ensures the development, implementation and maintenance of fair business practices aligned to Group policy and procedures.
- Ensures sustainability through good corporate governance, business partnerships and supplier relations in line with business objectives and needs.
- Monitors compliance deals with any noted deviations and provides feedback.
- Community development and compliance
- Strategizes and manages a portfolio of projects to deliver benefit to stakeholders and host communities including Local Economic Development (LED) projects for SLP compliance, Socio Economic Development (SED) and Corporate Social Investments (CSI) Initiatives.
- Develops and applies measurements to determine success of outcomes of various stakeholder and community engagements, community investment and impact management initiatives.
- Participates at an appropriate level in forums with labour/unions, government, communities and other stakeholders around the Marula operations.
- Provides support to the Executive: Marula in dealing with the various stakeholders and managing the various reporting requirements
- Special Projects
- Provides financial support to special projects especially where these projects require tax, accounting and governance inputs and gain input from the Group functions where required
- Stakeholder relations
- Builds, supports and maintains healthy diverse internal and external relations and implements remedial actions where required.
- Provides relevant support to stakeholders to ensure team objectives are achieved
- Payroll
- Oversight of the Payroll function to ensure that employees are remunerated accurately and timeously.
- Assist in the implementation and management of Marula reward system's, ensuring that it is aligned to Group policies and all procedures are adhered too
- Reporting
- Reports on performance to internal and external stakeholders on a daily-, monthly-, quarterly- and bi-annual basis and ad-hoc basis.
- Reports and/or escalates major unwanted events, critical incidents or key identified risks as required.
- Other
- Sources the required external specialized legal services for Marula, internally or externally, with the support of Group Legal team, as and when required.
- Ensures that the service received from Group functions e.g., Information Technology, HR support, group financial and management accounting support etc, is actively managed and fit for purpose.
- Participates at an appropriate level in forums with labour/unions, government, communities and other stakeholders around the Marula operations.
- Provides support to the Executive: Marula Operations in dealing with the various stakeholders and managing the various reporting requirements
