PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To Safely Develop, Cut, Fabricate/assemble, weld and maintain metal components


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 (with Mathematics and Physical Science) or NQF 4 equivalent is essential
  • Recognised relevant Trade Qualification is essential.
  • 3 years of Boilermaker experience in mining environment is essential.


COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principle's development
  • Identify engineering materials, their characteristics and applications and common metal test used in engineering
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of fabrication
  • Use Welding definitions and symbols
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of welding
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of testing welds
  • Demonstrate an awareness of customer service


KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Develops and fabricates from complex drawing
  • Marks off basic regular engineering shapes
  • Cuts, drills and punches, assembles and mechanically joins structural steel work
  • Cut material using the oxy – fuel gas cutting process (manual cutting) or hand tools (Cold chisel and tin snips)
  • Performs general grinding operations by means of pedestal / bench grinding machines
  • Assembles and mechanically joins sheets, plates, tubes, pipes and steel sections
  • Forms and shapes sheets, plates, pipes and structural sections using power machinery
  • Welds Workpieces with a variety of welding methods in all positions
  • Test the physical properties of engineering metals
  • Maintain belt conveyor components
  • Lifts and moves material and equipment by means forklift
  • Compiles feasibility and commissioning reports
  • Adhere to safety regulations and mine standards, procedure and practices and reports non – compliance
  • Participate in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety
  • Perform regular inspections in area of work and reports hazards to ensure environment is safe and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary
