PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To provide a technical service to a section or unit. Design, install, maintain and repair electrical systems and products used in the business.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 (with Mathematics and Physical Science) or NQF 4 equivalent is essential.
- Electrical Trade Certificate is essential.
- Medium Voltage Certificate is essential.
- Completed Winder Modules (Artisan Training Standard 5073) is essential.
- Minimum 2 years' experience is essential on the following:
- MV (33 kV & 6.6 kV) cable installation, termination, fault finding & repairs.
- Construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of MV electrical networks including switchgear.
- Substation maintenance.
- MV testing equipment.
- Maintenance and repairs of overhead cranes.
COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace.
- Understand basic electrical and mechanical engineering principles.
- Demonstrate an understanding of fault-finding techniques on field instrumentation.
- Respond to hazardous and emergency conditions.
- VSD and soft starters knowledge
- Handle and care of electrical earthing gear and related equipment
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides input to the planning process within the area of control and execute the approved plan in accordance with policies, procedures and processes to ensure achievement of production targets
- Performs equipment maintenance services according to the required standards and specifications.
- Maintains a safe and productive workplace
- Makes materials and equipment available for the shift requirements.
- Plans, schedules and supervises/coordinate subordinate's activities within a process or service to achieve efficiency and quality goals.
- Complies with MHSA requirements.
- Performs underground MV and LV distribution.
- Compiles and completes accurate reports including safety, injury, hazard, risk and incident reports, and shift and work order reports, and ad hoc reports.
- Provides relevant support to stakeholders to ensure team objectives are achieved.
- Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
- Supports and participate in change management initiatives to drive transformation and optimisation.
- Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
