A specialist Nephrology practice in Mayfair, Johannesburg is seeking to recruit an experienced Medical Receptionist. The successful candidate will be professional, organised, and patient-focused, with the ability to provide excellent administrative support while ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answer all incoming calls in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner
  • Take messages and ensure they are communicated to the relevant person
  • Manage the doctor's diary, appointment scheduling, and patient bookings
  • Welcome patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
  • Create and maintain accurate patient records and files
  • Update patient demographic and medical information on the practice system
  • Assist with obtaining referral letters, laboratory results, radiology reports, and other medical correspondence
  • Arrange hospital admissions and coordinate patient procedures where required
  • Prepare patient files and documentation ahead of consultations
  • Process cash and card payments and issue receipts
  • Maintain and monitor practice stock and stationery supplies
  • Liaise with healthcare providers, hospitals, laboratories, suppliers, and service providers
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with practice policies
  • Assist the doctor with general administrative and practice-related duties
  • Ensure the reception area remains professional, organised, and welcoming.

Qualification and Requirements:

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • Previous experience in a medical receptionist position is essential
  • Experience within a specialist medical practice will be advantageous
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 coding and medical terminology advantageous
  • Computer literacy essential, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Experience with medical practice software advantageous
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills

Work Hours:

Monday to Friday, 07h30 – 16h30 (or until the last patient has been seen)
