About the job Medical General Manager / Chief Operating Officer (COO), Bryanston
A well-established and growing multidisciplinary healthcare practice focused on family and children's health in Bryanston, Johannesburg is seeking to recruit an experienced General Manager / Chief Operating Officer (COO). This senior leadership role is responsible for overseeing operational excellence, people management, business performance, and patient experience across a large clinical and administrative team. The successful candidate will be a strategic, hands on leader who can support the continued growth and success of the practice.
Roles and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Oversee the day to day operations of the practice
- Ensure efficient workflow and coordination between clinical, therapy, and administrative teams
- Develop, implement, and monitor operational policies, systems, and procedures
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, patient experience, and service delivery
- Manage facilities, equipment, suppliers, and operational resources
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, retention, and performance management of staff
- Manage leave, disciplinary processes, and staff development initiatives
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional workplace culture
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation and HR best practices
- Assist with budgeting, cost control, and operational financial management
- Monitor operational performance and key business metrics
- Support strategic growth initiatives and business development opportunities
- Coordinate marketing and communication initiatives in conjunction with leadership
- Support brand development, community engagement, and stakeholder relationships
- Maintain strong relationships with healthcare professionals, staff, patients, and referral networks
- Act as a liaison between clinical and operational teams
- Prepare operational reports and updates for executive management
- Support the implementation of strategic goals and organisational objectives
Qualification and Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years' professional work experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior management role
- Previous experience within a healthcare or health related environment preferred
- Proven experience managing teams, operations, and business processes
- Degree or tertiary qualification in Commerce, Accounting, Management, Healthcare Management, or a related field advantageous
- Strong understanding of healthcare administration and practice management advantageous
- Experience with GoodX Practice Management Software advantageous
- Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport essential

Work Hours:
Monday to Friday: 08h00 – 17h00 (operational requirements may require attendance from approximately 07h30 – 18h00)
Occasional half-day Saturdays (approximately one to two Saturdays per month) as required by the practice
