We are looking for a Lead QA Automation Engineer (SDET) who will build the entire QA foundation from the ground up for a startup in filming industry. This is a hybrid role: 50% manual QA leadership (test planning, documentation, release readiness) and 50% automation engineering (framework development, CI/CD integration, advanced test strategy).

This individual will be the primary owner of quality, responsible for bringing structure, strategy, and technical maturity to how we ship software. You will work closely with engineering leadership, product, and DevOps to ensure every release is stable, testable, and predictable.

QA Testing (50%)

• Define the full QA process for the company (test planning, execution, reporting).

• Create and maintain detailed test cases, test plans, and regression suites.

• Perform release testing, smoke testing, and exploratory testing.

• Establish and maintain test case management practices (tools, processes, structure).

• Document QA workflows, quality standards, acceptance criteria, and release readiness checklists.

• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure requirements are testable, clear, and complete.

• Introduce best practices such as shift-left testing, defect taxonomy, and quality gates.

Test Automation & CI/CD (50%)

• Develop and maintain a JavaScript/TypeScript-based automation framework from scratch.

• Lead decisions around tooling; default stack: Playwright + TypeScript.

• Implement functional UI, API, E2E, and integration tests across the automation pyramid:

• Create GitHub Actions workflows, automate tests kick off after every merge

• Configure automated test execution per environment and context:

• Ensure test suites run efficiently and provide fast, reliable feedback to engineers.

Collaboration & Quality Engineering

• Partner with developers to ensure testability, stable selectors, and environment readiness.

• Reduce test flakiness and maintain high stability across pipelines.

• Improve test execution time through optimization, parallelization, and test data strategy.

• Drive coverage improvements across all layers with meaningful (not superficial) tests.

Required Experience

• 5+ years of experience in Lead QA/QA Automation / SDET roles.

• Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript testing frameworks.

• Expertise in Playwright, Cypress, or similar modern automation tools.

• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred).

• Ability to architect automation frameworks from scratch.

• Experience testing complex UI/UX flows, APIs, microservices, and integrations.

• Strong manual QA skills: test design, test case management, exploratory testing.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience working in early-stage or fast-moving startup environments.

• Familiarity with service mocking, contract testing, or test data orchestration.

• Knowledge of shift-left practices and QA metrics/observability.

• Experience with multi-environment testing (dev, staging, pre-prod, production).
