They provide Assistance Services and Travel Insurance covering over 200 countries. They have been bringing people from distress to relief since 1963. 

A Senior Legal Counsel plays a crucial role in providing legal advice and serves as strategic advisers to the organization's leadership, offering legal guidance on complex business decisions, risk management, and legal compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance and counsel to the company's leadership and various departments. 
  • Ensure that the company's activities comply with applicable laws and regulations. 
  • This includes knowledge of contract law, corporate law, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, employment law, and more.
  • Assess legal risks associated with business decisions and work to mitigate them. This includes evaluating potential litigation risks and providing strategies to avoid or minimise legal disputes. 
  • Senior Legal Counsel may oversee litigation and work with external law firms when necessary. 
  • Explore alternative dispute resolution methods. 
  • Monitor and address legal and regulatory changes that may impact the company's operations. 
  • Ensure that the company complies with corporate governance requirements and advises on corporate structure and governance matters. 
  • Monitor and engage with relevant government authorities and agencies on regulatory and compliance issues affecting the organisation.

Qualifications: 

  • Senior Legal Counsel holds a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and is licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction. 
  • At least 7 years of legal experience, or more, out of which 3 years spent in a senior role as a corporate attorney or in a similar in-house legal role is valuable. 
  • Experience working in insurance companies is mandatory, knowledge in re-insurance is an advantage 
  • Familiarity with the specific industry in which the company operates is often preferred, as it enables the Senior Legal Counsel to understand industry-specific regulations and challenges. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for conveying legal advice and negotiating contracts effectively. 
  • The ability to analyse complex legal issues, assess risks, and provide practical solutions is crucial.
  • Upholding the highest ethical standards is imperative, as Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for guiding the company's legal and ethical behavior. 
  • The ability to adapt to changing legal landscapes and business environments is essential. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating sound judgment and decision-making abilities. 
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
