About the Role:

Our client, a leading defense technology company, is seeking a Principal Engineer System & Integration to play a critical role in the design, integration, and security hardening of embedded systems within the Dismounted Soldier System (DSS) program. This role focuses on enhancing Linux and Android-based operating systems for secure military applications, ensuring their resilience in mission-critical environments.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in systems engineering, embedded software security, and military systems integration, with a proven track record in software hardening, penetration testing, and secure communications. Key Responsibilities:

System Integration & Technical Leadership

• Oversee the end-to-end integration of subsystems within the Dismounted Soldier System, ensuring compatibility and adherence to military standards.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure seamless interaction between smart hubs, embedded systems, and mission-critical communication devices.
• Lead the configuration and optimization of embedded systems, ensuring compliance with security and performance requirements.

Software Hardening & Security Engineering

• Assess and implement software hardening strategies for Linux and Android-based smart hubs and embedded systems.
• Conduct penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and security audits to identify and mitigate potential security threats.
• Work with cybersecurity experts to ensure compliance with encryption standards, secure communication protocols, and military security requirements.
• Testing, Validation & Compliance
• Develop and execute test plans for system-level validation, integration, and field testing.
• Perform troubleshooting and debugging for system-related issues, ensuring performance aligns with military and industry standards.
• Prepare technical documentation including test reports, integration plans, and security assessments.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Masters degree preferred).

Experience:

• 15+ years in systems engineering, embedded software development, and testing within defense, military, or secure communication environments.
• Expertise in military systems integration, with a strong background in Dismounted Soldier Systems, combat systems, or mission-critical embedded technology.
• Extensive knowledge of Linux and Android security frameworks, embedded software hardening, and secure OS development.
• Hands-on experience with penetration testing, security audits, and vulnerability analysis.
• Familiarity with military specifications, standards, and compliance requirements for secure embedded systems.

Key Skills & Certifications:

• Proficiency in C, C++, and Java (Android development).
• Deep understanding of Linux kernel, secure boot, device drivers, and firmware development.
• Strong knowledge of encryption protocols, secure communications, and cryptography.
• Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and system security.
• Project Management Certification (PMP or equivalent) is a plus.
• Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
