Android Engineer (AI)

Our client is an AI startup building a proactive AI assistant that helps users complete real-world tasks through intelligent, goal-driven workflows.

We are looking for an Android Software Engineer to own the Android client experience, how AI feels, behaves, and performs on mobile devices. You'll build a production-grade Android application where AI interactions are central to the product experience, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and usability.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain production Android applications using Kotlin.
• Integrate AI-powered features, including chat, vision, voice, and recommendation capabilities, through backend APIs.
• Design user experiences for AI interactions, including streaming responses, retries, and partial results.
• Optimize application performance, memory usage, and responsiveness for AI-intensive workflows.
• Implement analytics, logging, and feedback collection to support AI evaluation and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate closely with backend and ML engineers on API contracts and system behaviour.
• Ensure application stability, security, and scalability in production environments.

Requirements

• 3+ years of Android development experience using Kotlin.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI-powered features, such as LLMs, computer vision, or speech APIs.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming using Coroutines and Flow.
• Familiarity with REST or gRPC APIs and structured data formats.
• Strong debugging, profiling, and performance optimisation skills.
• Comfortable building applications that handle latency, partial failures, and the non-deterministic behaviour of AI systems.
• Experience with ML Kit or lightweight on-device machine learning.
• Experience publishing and maintaining production applications on the Google Play Store.
• Technologies and tools: Kotlin, Java, SQL, NoSQL, TensorFlow Lite (on-device inference).
