The Opportunity

A top tier Am Law 100 firm is seeking a Patent Agent  Biological Sciences with a Ph.D. in the biological sciences to join its Boston headquarters. This position will focus on patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis, and due diligence, with a particular emphasis on innovative biotechnology. You'll be involved in procuring patent protection and building IP portfolios for cutting-edge biotech technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patent Prosecution: Draft and prosecute patent applications, responding to office actions, and coordinating with foreign associates in various jurisdictions.
  • Collaboration with Scientists and Inventors: Work closely with scientists and inventors to draft high-quality patent applications from invention disclosures and interviews.
  • Patent Landscaping & Freedom-to-Operate Analysis: Conduct detailed patent landscape and freedom-to-operate searches, supporting IP analysis.
  • IP Due Diligence: Support investors and conduct IP diligence for biotech investments, IPOs, and capital market transactions.
  • Client Interaction: Provide clients with strategic guidance on patent protection, portfolio management, and IP enforcement.

Qualifications

  • Education: Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related biological sciences fields.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of patent prosecution experience is preferred.
    • Experience drafting patent applications from invention disclosure forms or inventor interviews.
  • Technical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex scientific concepts and present them clearly to both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders.
  • USPTO Admission: Required.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, stay organized, and manage competing deadlines.
  • Collaboration: Excellent team collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues in cross-functional teams.
