The Opportunity

We're seeking a skilled and driven Patent Agent (Chemistry) to join one of our esteemed clients, a leader in intellectual property law. This position offers the opportunity to work on groundbreaking technologies and collaborate with industry innovators while building robust intellectual property portfolios. The role is based in, San Diego, CA

What You'll Do

• Lead with Expertise: Work with cutting-edge innovations to draft, prosecute, and analyze patent applications in various chemical fields, including organic, synthetic, and medicinal chemistry, as well as material science.
• Analyze and Innovate: Conduct comprehensive searches and in-depth analysis of scientific literature, patents, and patent applications. Provide insights into the differences between inventions and existing discoveries.
• Collaborate for Success: Work with clients and cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality patent applications and build strong IP portfolios.
• Deliver Excellence: Draft office action responses, compose patent applications, and advocate for patent allowances with compelling arguments.

What You Bring to the Table

• Education:
  • Ph.D. in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry preferred, OR
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-baccalaureate laboratory research experience.
• Experience:
  • At least 2 years of patent prosecution experience.
  • USPTO admission is required.
• Skills:
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to present scientific concepts clearly.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities to manage competing priorities.
  • A collaborative mindset to work effectively within a team environment.

• Scientific Expertise: Deep understanding of organic, synthetic, and medicinal chemistry.
• Patent Proficiency: Proven experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications and responses to office actions.
