The Opportunity
We're seeking an Energy Regulatory Associate to join one of our esteemed clients in their Austin, TX office. This role is ideal for a legal professional with a strong background in regulatory and compliance matters within the energy sector. You'll collaborate with the Energy & Natural Resources business unit, contributing to high-stakes cases and helping clients navigate complex energy regulations.
What You'll Do
Lead with Purpose: Handle regulatory and compliance matters before the Texas Public Utility Commission and other state energy regulatory commissions.
Analyze and Innovate: Work on cases involving the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and other ISO/RTOs or organized power markets.
Collaborate for Success: Support advocacy before state utility commissions and assist with power transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and power sales.
Deliver Excellence: Develop and execute strategic legal approaches to complex regulatory matters.
What You Bring to the Table
Experience: 4-8 years of experience in energy regulatory and compliance matters, preferably with exposure to ERCOT or other organized power markets. Advocacy before state utility commissions and experience with power transactions are beneficial.
Education: JD with excellent academic credentials.
Bar Admission: Active Texas bar license or willingness to obtain one promptly.
Skills: Exceptional judgment, interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
Mindset: Proactive, entrepreneurial, and dedicated to community engagement and excellence.
Your Skillset
Regulatory Expertise: Deep understanding of energy regulations and compliance, including proceedings before the Texas Public Utility Commission.
Transactional Knowledge: Experience with power transactions, including mergers and acquisitions.
Collaboration and Communication: Ability to work effectively with clients and cross-functional teams.
Strategic Thinking: Strong ability to articulate and implement legal strategies in complex regulatory matters.
