Machining Quality Engineer

Job Summary
As a Machining Quality Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality of machined components through meticulous analysis, problem-solving, and collaboration with production and engineering teams. You will be responsible for implementing quality control measures, identifying areas for improvement in machining processes, and driving continuous quality enhancement initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Quality Assurance: Oversee the quality control process for machined components, ensuring adherence to established standards and specifications.
- Process Optimization: Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to optimize machining processes for improved quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis of machining defects or non-conformities and develop corrective and preventive actions to address underlying issues.
- Quality Documentation: Maintain accurate records of quality inspections, test results, and other relevant documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Statistical Analysis: Utilize statistical tools and techniques to analyze machining data, identify trends, and drive data-driven decisions for quality improvement.
- Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to production operators and quality assurance personnel on quality control procedures, inspection techniques, and best practices in machining.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing machining quality, productivity, and cost efficiency.
- Customer Support: Address customer concerns or quality issues related to machined components and work closely with customer-facing teams to ensure prompt resolution and customer satisfaction.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant quality standards, regulations, and industry best practices related to machining processes, and ensure compliance within the organization. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications and participating in professional organizations.
- Metrology: Use advance metrology tools such as a Vision system to speed up part inspection. This will include programing the system and creating fixtures as necessary.
- Design: Design fixtures for checking parts or assemblies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in quality engineering or quality assurance roles within a machining or manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of machining processes specifically with CNC lathes and screw machines.
- Proficiency in quality management systems, statistical analysis tools, and quality assurance methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to conduct thorough root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
Experience
- Experience with quality documentation and compliance requirements, such as ISO 9001 or AS9100, is desirable.
- SolidWorks or 3D CAD experience is desirable.
- Experience with vision systems is desirable.
Education
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
