Summary Description:
We are seeking an experienced Line Supervisor to oversee line operations at our frozen fruit and vegetable co-packing facility. The ideal candidate will manage daily production line activities, ensuring that bulk frozen products are efficiently packed into consumer retail bags. This role is critical to maintaining quality, safety, sanitation and productivity standards, while meeting production schedules.
This role requires a hands-on leader who is ready to actively participate in day-to-day operations and drive continuous improvement.
Roles
1. Operational Supervision:
Lead and oversee line operations, from staging frozen bulk ingredients to packing into retail-ready bags, ensuring efficiency and minimal waste.
Supervise and coordinate the activities of the production line workers, ensuring that production targets are met on time and within budget.
Ensure that all machinery and equipment are operated correctly and safely.
Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure that all machinery is in good working order, promptly addressing any technical issues to prevent downtime.
2. Staff Management:
Schedule, and motivate line operators and packers, fostering a positive team environment focused on quality and safety.
Provide training and guidance to team members, ensuring that they are knowledgeable about their tasks and company standards.
Manage shift schedules and assign tasks to ensure adequate coverage and efficient use of resources.
3. Quality Control:
Monitor all stages of packing to ensure products meet stringent quality standards, including appearance, weight, and packaging integrity.
Conduct regular inspections of the production line to identify and address any quality issues.
Work with the quality control team to implement and maintain quality assurance procedures.
4. Safety & Compliance:
Enforce compliance with facility safety, health, and environmental policies, as well as food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, SQF, FSMA).
Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including food safety standards.
Address any safety concerns promptly and take corrective action as needed.
5. Production Planning and Inventory Management:
Work closely with the Plant Manager and Warehouse Manager to implement best practices and optimize production.
Follow daily production schedules and manage workflow. Communicate any issues immediately to the Plant Manager.
Maintain accurate quality records and records of bulk and packaged inventory.
6. Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of production activities, including output, downtime, and any issues that arise.
Prepare daily shift reports and communicate any concerns or suggestions to the Plant Manager.
Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with head office.
Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelors degree in a related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a production or supervisory role, preferably within food manufacturing or frozen food co-packing.
Knowledge: Understanding of food safety standards (HACCP, FSMA), familiarity with frozen food handling, and previous experience in packaging operations.
Skills: Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills; ability to manage a team effectively and foster a collaborative environment.
Technical Aptitude: Ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues; familiarity with automated packing equipment is a plus.
Bi-Lingual: English/Spanish preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Ability to work in a cold environment and stand for extended periods.
Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds when needed.
Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
