Shipping/Receiving and Warehouse Supervisor

 Job Description:

Summary:

The Shipping, Receiving, and Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and safety. This role focuses on maintaining a well-organized workspace, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring that all materials and products are handled in compliance with company standards and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Train, mentor, and lead the shipping and receiving team to ensure proficiency in material handling, equipment operation, and adherence to company procedures.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement among team members.

Operational Management:

  • Plan and coordinate staffing to meet daily shipping and receiving demands, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks.
  • Monitor the loading and unloading of materials, ensuring alignment with customer service standards, logistics requirements, and accounting protocols.
  • Provide daily activity reports by 11:00 AM to relevant stakeholders.

Quality Assurance:

  • Oversee the receipt of goods, verifying the quality and quantity of items against supplier documentation. Report discrepancies promptly to carriers, supervisors, and the purchasing department.
  • Conduct quality checks for parent roll shipments, including test weighing and coordinating with Quality Control to ensure compliance with purchase order requirements. Maintain chain-of-custody documentation for FSC mix content materials.
  • Address major discrepancies, over-shipments, or substitutions with the Operations Manager.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Prepare and verify bills of lading, shipment tickets, and ASNs (Advance Shipping Notices) to meet customer and regulatory requirements, avoiding penalties such as Walmart fines.
  • Document and process claims for in-transit damage or discrepancies.


Warehouse Organization and Improvement:

  • Develop and implement warehouse organization strategies to optimize space, accessibility, and efficiency.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and reduce operational inefficiencies.

Performance Monitoring:

  • Manage team performance, addressing any issues related to productivity, accuracy, or behavior in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional clerical and administrative tasks as needed to support shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to safely operate material handling equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in warehouse management practices and space optimization strategies.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills to motivate and manage a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and familiarity with ERP systems is a plus.
  • Basic math skills to accurately sort, count, and verify shipments and inventory.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional education (bachelors degree) or certifications in logistics, supply chain management, or related fields preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
