Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our care home team. The ideal candidate will support the kitchen staff in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient working environment while assisting in food preparation and service for residents. This role is crucial in ensuring residents receive nutritious and high-quality meals in accordance with dietary requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals to residents.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining areas, and equipment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen tools, ensuring hygiene standards are met.
- Support stock control by checking and storing deliveries appropriately.
- Follow food hygiene and safety guidelines, including allergen awareness.
- Assist in setting up dining areas and ensuring meals are presented attractively.
- Work collaboratively with chefs and care staff to accommodate residents' dietary needs and preferences.
- Dispose of waste properly and ensure the kitchen meets environmental health standards.
- Report any kitchen maintenance issues or food shortages to the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a kitchen environment, preferably in a care home or healthcare setting (desirable but not essential).
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations (Basic Food Hygiene Certificate preferred).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a compassionate approach towards elderly residents.
- Willingness to undergo training as required.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
