The Chief Accountant manages all accounting operations, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, internal procedures, and applicable regulations. The role supervises accounting staff to guarantee accurate and timely completion of departmental tasks, financial reporting, and related projects. The position also involves implementing accounting policies, coordinating audits, and providing financial insights to support organizational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations of the Accounting Department, overseeing staff performance, assigning tasks, and tracking progress toward goals.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, disbursements, invoices, recorded transactions, and check vouchers for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Ensure timely remittance to government agencies and prepare financial reports for banks and senior management to aid decision-making.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, budgets, and financial projections to provide a comprehensive financial overview.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, supply required documentation, and address audit findings to ensure smooth audit processes.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and random checks of accounting records and reports to maintain accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Organize staff training programs and support professional development to enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Stay informed on government regulations, industry trends, and emerging technologies; perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA license required.
  • 35 years of accounting experience, preferably in a school or educational institution.
  • Proficient in GAAP, accounting procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of taxation laws and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience supervising staff and providing clear guidance, both written and verbal.
  • Skilled in ODOO, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel/Word, and other accounting or office software.
  • Familiarity with electronic wallets and online cash management systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization.
  • Up-to-date with industry and regulatory developments affecting accounting functions.
