Role Overview:
The Accounting Manager provides strategic leadership over financial operations and ensures accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting for a multi-branch retail business. This role partners closely with senior leadership and the management committee, delivering financial insights that support strategic and commercial decision-making. The role also leads and develops the accounting team, ensuring high performance and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & FP&A
- Lead preparation, review, and interpretation of financial statements in compliance with PFRS.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure accurate, complete, and timely reporting.
- Develop and present executive-level reports and insights to senior leadership and ManCom.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead annual budgeting and financial forecasting, aligned with business and retail growth objectives.
- Monitor actual performance vs. budget, providing variance analysis and actionable recommendations.
- Drive long-range planning and scenario analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Accounts Management
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring strong governance and cash flow management.
- Ensure accurate billing, collections, cash application, and bank reconciliations across retail operations.
- Maintain accurate accounting records in accounting systems.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Design, implement, and improve internal control frameworks to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
- Lead resolution of audit findings and serve as primary finance contact for audits.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
- Delegate responsibilities while providing guidance and coaching to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
- Conduct performance evaluations and implement development plans.
Retail-Specific Duties
- Manage inventory accounting, stock valuation, costing, and reconciliation across stores.
- Monitor cash flow to support day-to-day retail operations and business sustainability.
- Analyze sales and margin data, providing actionable insights to support commercial and operational decisions.
Qualifications:
- BS Accountancy graduate; CPA required.
- Strong background in accounting within the retail industry, preferably with multiple branches or stores.
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in people management.
- Demonstrated experience in ManCom interaction and executive-level reporting, with strong executive presence.
- Proven ability to deliver financial insights that influence strategic decisions.
- Experience in utilizing accounting systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
