Job Summary

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the hospital's accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and smooth day-to-day accounting activities.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Controls

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate, complete, and timely financial reports for management and relevant stakeholders
  • Establish, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard the organization's financial integrity and prevent errors or irregularities
  • Review accounting records, journal entries, and transactions to ensure compliance with accounting standards, hospital policies, and internal procedures
  • Conduct periodic reconciliations to ensure accuracy across accounts, ledgers, and financial statements
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and addressing audit findings
  • Prepare and present financial summaries, variance analyses, and management reports to support decision-making

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts for the accounting department and broader hospital operations
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and flag significant variances for management review
  • Support cost-control initiatives by identifying areas of inefficiency or unnecessary spending
  • Provide financial input and analysis to support strategic planning and decision-making by hospital leadership

Team Leadership

  • Lead, guide, and develop the accounting team, including Accounting Supervisors and staff, to maintain high performance and accountability
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and ongoing support to help team members strengthen their skills and grow in their roles
  • Set clear expectations, monitor team performance, and address performance gaps as needed
  • Conduct regular team meetings to align on priorities, resolve issues, and share updates on policies or procedures
  • Foster a collaborative and disciplined work environment that supports accuracy and accountability across the accounting function
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new accounting staff as the team grows

Operations Management

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including cashiering, billing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable workflows
  • Ensure accounting processes run efficiently and are well-documented, minimizing bottlenecks and errors
  • Monitor cash flow, billing accuracy, and collection processes to support the hospital's financial stability
  • Collaborate closely with finance leadership to align accounting operations with broader organizational financial goals
  • Coordinate with other departments (e.g., billing, admissions, procurement) to ensure accounting processes support overall hospital operations
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, systems, and reporting processes for greater efficiency and accuracy
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll-related accounting entries, in coordination with HR and Finance

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure the hospital's accounting practices comply with relevant government regulations, tax requirements, and reporting standards
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and healthcare-industry regulations that may affect the organization
  • Identify and address financial risks, escalating significant concerns to finance leadership as needed
  • Maintain proper documentation and audit trails to support regulatory compliance and internal governance

Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Relevant work experience in the hospital or healthcare industry
  • Hands-on familiarity with the BizBox Hospital Information System
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, including the ability to build and manage financial reports and models
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience, leading and developing a team
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and internal control frameworks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work with both finance teams and non-finance stakeholders
