Role Summary:
The Head of Retail Media & Performance Advertising will build, scale, and lead a high-growth Retail Media business unit within a membership-based retail and e-commerce organization.
This role carries full P&L accountability and is responsible for transforming first-party customer data into a monetizable advertising platform that enables brand partners and marketplace sellers to reach a highly engaged member base through data-driven, measurable media solutions.
The role operates as a business unit leader — defining strategy, commercial frameworks, ad product development, campaign delivery, and measurement infrastructure — while collaborating cross-functionally across Commercial, Marketing, Data, and Technology teams.
This is both a strategic and operational leadership role with revenue ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Business Ownership & P&L Leadership
- Own full P&L responsibility for the Retail Media vertical.
- Define annual revenue targets and profitability goals.
- Develop scalable pricing structures (CPM, CPC, CPA, hybrid models).
- Build go-to-market strategy and revenue expansion roadmap.
- Provide performance reporting, forecasts, and strategic insights to executive leadership.
2. Retail Media Strategy & Product Development
- Define the overall Retail Media vision, roadmap, and KPIs.
- Develop compelling value propositions for brand partners and marketplace sellers.
- Design ad inventory structure, bidding logic, and monetization mechanics.
- Identify and launch new ad formats (on-site display, sponsored listings, CRM media, off-site targeting, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with data governance and privacy standards.
3. Advertiser & Partner Development
- Lead acquisition and onboarding of brand advertisers and marketplace sellers.
- Develop media proposals aligned to brand objectives (awareness, conversion, basket uplift, etc.).
- Act as senior client lead for key accounts.
- Drive long-term commercial relationships and upsell opportunities.
4. Campaign Delivery & Optimization
- Oversee end-to-end campaign execution across digital touchpoints (on-site placements, push notifications, CRM, SMS, email, etc.).
- Ensure timely delivery, targeting precision, and performance optimization.
- Partner with analytics teams to measure attribution and incremental lift.
- Optimize campaigns based on ROAS, ROI, and attributed sales.
5. Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with Technology teams on ad serving infrastructure and targeting capabilities.
- Work with Data teams to implement robust tracking and attribution systems.
- Align with Marketing to integrate Retail Media within broader customer engagement strategies.
- Build and lead a high-performing Retail Media team.
6. Measurement & Analytics
- Define performance metrics including ROAS, ROI, incremental sales, and customer acquisition cost.
- Establish standardized reporting dashboards.
- Continuously refine attribution methodology and campaign optimization frameworks.
- Utilize analytics platforms (e.g., Mixpanel, GA4, or similar tools) for performance tracking.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field.
- Advanced certifications in Digital Media, Ad Tech, or Data Analytics are advantageous.
Experience
- 5–8+ years in digital media, retail media, performance marketing, or e-commerce advertising.
- Demonstrated experience owning revenue targets or managing P&L components.
- Strong exposure to ad tech ecosystems and performance marketing frameworks.
- Experience working cross-functionally with commercial, marketing, data, and technology teams.
- Client-facing leadership experience managing brand advertisers or strategic accounts.
