**Job Description**
**SUMMARY**
This position is the entry-level role for an individual with minimal knowledge of the Printing Process. The A3 Offset Pressman Assistant has been deemed a Skilled Progressive Job and will receive ongoing progressive training into the A4 Offset Pressman 2nd position. The associate will be learning how to Setup/Make-ready, Troubleshoot, Maintain, and Assist the Operation of the Offset Printing presses to specifications written on the Factory Ticket through a monitored and reviewed training process. The A3 Offset Pressman Assistant may be called upon to utilize their progressive skill set during call-in events and vacation coverage for the A4 Offset Pressman 2nd. The Department Supervisor and/or Plant Manager will assess manufacturing needs to ensure the associates current skill set is at the appropriate level to safely/effectively operate the asset and produce quality material.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
Listed below is a summary of duties, but not a list of all duties.
1. Maintain feeder end of press (maintenance/cleaning).
2. Perform all lubrication procedures for the press.
3. Ensure housekeeping for the feeder and press area.
4. Set up feeder for production runs.
5. Train on PIV to move loads.
6. Use aerator to prepare loads.
7. Complete required paperwork to return board to flat stock.
8. Clean and maintain the blanket washer, including replacing roller cloths.
9. Follow delivery cleaning procedures.
10. Assist in removing and replacing coating under blanket.
11. Assist in setting ink and water rollers, including removing and replacing rollers.
12. Assist in blanket replacement, including proper packing and checking with a gauge.
13. Assist in removal and replacement of the anilox rollers.
14. Other duties as requested by Lead #1 & Lead #2.
15. Ensure jobs that come off the press are checked for color, defects, and problems (not just when feeding).
16. Work with the head pressman to learn operational procedures of offset printing presses. Communication with other crew members of the press is essential. Asking questions about the machine operation while performing duties and assisting the head pressman is crucial to the learning process.
**Some of the learning duties of the A4 Offset Assistant include:**
1. Knowledge of ink and water balance and control (troubleshooting).
2. Prepare plates for the next run by bending and setting them up.
3. Plate registration.
4. Complete all maintenance procedures on the maintenance chart.
5. Set all ink and water rollers.
6. Select the correct ink and coating per company program (knowledge of different inks and coatings).
7. Remove and replace anilox roller and set it to specifications.
8. Remove and replace chamber and blades and set to specifications.
9. Other duties as assigned.
