About the Role
We are seeking a highly seasoned Microsoft Access Architect / Senior Developer with extensive experience in building, maintaining, and modernizing Access-based business-critical systems. The ideal candidate has decades of hands-on expertise, strong understanding of legacy systems, and the ability to work independently on large and complex applications.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and enhance large-scale Microsoft Access applications used in production environments.
Modernize and improve legacy Access systems without disrupting operations.
Develop and optimize VBA modules, forms, reports, macros, and advanced queries.
Integrate Access applications with SQL Server, Excel, SharePoint, APIs, and external data sources.
Lead database migration strategies (e.g., Access SQL Server) while ensuring data integrity.
Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, locked DB issues, corruption handling, and compact/repair strategies.
Establish coding standards, documentation, and data governance best practices.
Collaborate directly with business stakeholders and guide junior developers if needed.
Required Expertise
2+ years working professionally with Microsoft Access development.
Expert-level VBA automation and Jet/ACE engine performance tuning.
Deep knowledge of relational data modeling, normalization, indexing, and security.
Demonstrated experience in migrating and integrating Access with enterprise platforms.
Ability to handle complex maintenance and refactoring of legacy codebases.
Strong capability to operate independently with high accountability.
Preferred Skills
SQL Server / ODBC / Linked Tables
Power BI, PowerApps, SharePoint, Office 365 ecosystems
Documentation and structured change management
Familiarity with version control tools (Git) and CI practices
