Job Purpose:
The Internal Auditor is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the organizations internal controls, risk management processes, and governance practices. The role ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, donor requirements, and internal policies while providing recommendations to enhance operational efficiency, financial accuracy, and organizational integrity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Audit Planning & Execution
·Develop annual and engagement-level audit plans based on risk assessments.
·Conduct financial, operational, compliance, and IT audits across departments.
·Perform walkthroughs, test controls, and evaluate the adequacy of internal control systems.
·Document audit procedures, findings, and evidence in accordance with professional standards.
2. Risk Management & Internal Controls
·Identify control gaps, process inefficiencies, and potential areas of risk exposure.
·Recommend improvements to strengthen internal controls and mitigate risks.
·Monitor implementation of corrective actions and follow up on outstanding audit issues.
3. Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
·Ensure adherence to organizational policies, donor agreements, and statutory requirements.
·Review compliance with tax, payroll, procurement, and financial reporting regulations.
·Support external audits by coordinating documentation and responding to audit queries.
4. Reporting & Communication
·Prepare clear, concise audit reports with actionable recommendations.
·Present findings to senior management and the Audit Committee.
·Maintain professional communication with auditees to ensure clarity and cooperation.
5. Data Analysis & Documentation
·Analyze financial and operational data to detect anomalies, trends, or irregularities.
·Maintain comprehensive audit working papers and evidence files.
·Utilize audit software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, Xero) for testing and analysis.
6. Advisory & Continuous Improvement
·Provide guidance on process improvements, internal controls, and risk mitigation strategies.
·Participate in policy reviews and contribute to the development of SOPs.
·Support organizational initiatives related to governance, ethics, and compliance.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
Preferred: CIA, ACCA, CA, CIMA, or equivalent certification (completed or in progress).
Experience
·2–5 years of internal audit, external audit, compliance, or financial analysis experience.
·Experience in manufacturing environments is an advantage.
·Familiarity with IFRS, Tax laws and local regulatory frameworks.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
·Strong understanding of internal control frameworks (COSO, ISO 31000).
·Proficiency in audit methodologies and risk-based auditing.
·Advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting and ERP systems.
·Ability to analyze large datasets and identify inconsistencies.

·Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.

Working Conditions
·Office-based with periodic travel to field offices or project sites.
·Occasional extended hours during audit cycles or reporting deadlines.
