About the job Radiation Therapist
We are looking for a Radiation Therapist who operates advanced radiation therapy equipment to administer prescribed treatments to patients. This role involves ensuring patient safety, maintaining accurate treatment records, educating patients, and adhering to sterile techniques and radiation safety standards.
Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
- Operate CT/SIM, linear accelerators, high-dose-rate afterloading machines, and patient support systems.
- Perform morning equipment checks and warm-ups for CT/SIM and accelerators.
- Utilize the Record and Verify system to ensure precise delivery of treatment.
- Patient Care & Treatment Delivery:
- Administer treatments based on the physician's prescription, including mode, energy, dose, and treatment time.
- Perform patient set-ups according to Department Policies and Procedures.
- Collaborate with the care team to deliver radiation treatments effectively.
- Record Keeping & Patient Communication:
- Maintain detailed and accurate treatment records.
- Schedule patient treatments and provide thorough instructions to patients.
- Prepare and maintain patient treatment charts.
- Device Fabrication & Safety Practices:
- Create patient set-up devices, immobilization tools, and field-shaping blocks.
- Ensure patient, staff, and visitor safety by adhering to radiation safety protocols.
- Practice infection control to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases.
- Professional Standards & Collaboration:
- Exhibit professional behavior tailored to the age-specific needs of each patient.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and patients, demonstrating excellent customer service skills.
- Work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient care.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Experience:
- Entry-level position; relevant experience preferred.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Graduate from an accredited Radiation Therapy Program.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Certified Radiologic Technologist - Therapeutic Radiologic Technology Certificate (California) OR Radiologic Technologist Certification.
- Basic Life Support certification.
Additional Requirement:
- A California Fluoroscopy license is required in areas where fluoroscopy is performed by the therapist for patient diagnostics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the use of record and verify systems and multi-leaf collimators.
- One (1) year of recent and relevant experience in patient treatment with radiation therapy equipment.
