We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for our CVICU team. The CNS provides advanced clinical expertise in a specialized area of nursing practice (e.g., pediatrics, oncology, adult medicine). This role focuses on improving patient care outcomes, enhancing staff knowledge and competency, and advancing evidence-based nursing practices.


Essential Responsibilities

  1. Clinical Expertise:

    • Establish and monitor care standards, recommending improvements to enhance clinical outcomes.
    • Collaborate with nursing staff to assess the age-specific needs of patients and families, developing care plans for complex, high-risk cases.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of care and implement necessary adjustments.
  2. Education & Staff Development:

    • Design and deliver patient and family teaching programs, supporting nursing staff in implementation.
    • Develop and implement interdisciplinary care plans for complex cases.
    • Identify competency-based educational needs for staff and create training programs to ensure quality care delivery.
    • Introduce innovative techniques and trends in advanced nursing practice.
    • Serve as a preceptor for graduate healthcare students as needed.
  3. Consultation & Leadership:

    • Provide expert consultation to physicians, nurses, and healthcare providers for inpatient and outpatient care.
    • Recommend updates to care standards and practices based on evidence-based research.
    • Define and implement best nursing practices in alignment with current trends and research.
  4. Quality Assurance & Improvement:

    • Participate in QA&I initiatives by monitoring, establishing standards, and evaluating outcomes.
    • Collect and analyze data on patient outcomes, trends, morbidity, and mortality.
    • Access and utilize Health Connect to evaluate care quality, documentation accuracy, and appropriateness.
  5. Discharge Planning:

    • Ensure the implementation of an effective and coordinated discharge planning program.
  6. Staff Competency & Support:

    • Assist in interviewing and evaluating staff for clinical competence.
    • Provide coaching and counseling to support professional growth and improve performance.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience in the area of specialty required.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Master's degree in a clinical nursing field or a related field such as psychology, public health, social work, education, health sciences, behavioral sciences, nutrition, or bioethics from a nationally accredited program.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • A clinical Nurse Specialist Certificate (California) is required at hire.
  • Registered Nurse License (California) required at hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must thrive in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Clinical Nurse Specialist experience.
  • ACLS or PALS certification preferred.
