About the job Senior Integration Engineer (Remote, Anywhere in Pakistan, EUR Salary)

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of experience building and operating backend or integration services in production.
  • Proven end-to-end ownership, from designing and building to shipping and operating systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS serverless and messaging services, including SQS/SNS, Lambda, S3, EventBridge, Step Functions, API Gateway, CloudWatch, and Secrets Manager.
  • Strong backend engineering experience with Node.js, TypeScript, Python, or a similar modern language.
  • Go experience is a plus, but not required, the candidate should be able to learn it quickly and contribute to our tooling.
  • Strong knowledge of integration and messaging patterns, including idempotency, deduplication, ordering, dead-letter queues, replay, retry/backoff, and fault tolerance.
  • Strong experience with JSON, XML/XSD, and CSV, including parsing, validation, transformation, and mapping.
  • Solid API skills, including designing and consuming REST APIs, along with practical experience with partner integration requirements such as SOAP, SFTP, and batch files.
  • A track record of mentoring or leading engineers and raising the team's engineering standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with the ability to trace failures across multiple systems and identify the root cause.
  • Experience with structured logging, monitoring, and building observable systems.
  • Genuine, hands-on use of AI tools in real engineering work, with a clear understanding of where they add value and where they do not.
  • Production Go experience is a plus.
  • Experience with PHP, as several existing integrations use it and will need to be maintained and gradually migrated.
  • Experience with a transformation language such as XSLT or DataWeave.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with streaming and storage technologies beyond the basics, including Kinesis, DynamoDB, and OpenSearch.
  • Experience working with government, regulated, or GDPR-sensitive data domains.
  • Experience in AgriTech, IoT, supply-chain systems, or enterprise integration platforms such as MuleSoft, Boomi, or Camel is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, test, deploy, and operate event-driven services using AWS services such as SQS/SNS, Lambda, EventBridge, Step Functions, S3, and API Gateway.
  • Extend the canonical data model with Mykola to standardise data from multiple sources into one consistent internal representation.
  • Build connectors that ingest from and deliver to external partner systems, transforming data between source, canonical, and destination formats with schema and business-rule validation.
  • Design reliable integrations with idempotency, deduplication, ordering, dead-letter queues, replay, retry/backoff, and fault tolerance, ensuring delivery remains reliable when external systems are unavailable.
  • Ship VetLink and subsequent integrations end to end, including design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and operational runbooks.
  • Maintain and modernise existing integrations, including government/compliance APIs, IoT feeds, supply-chain partners, and third-party software, with some legacy integrations written in PHP.
  • Review pull requests, set engineering standards, unblock the two mid-level engineers, and contribute to their growth within the team.
  • Build and maintain systems with strong structured logging, monitoring, observability, and debugging capabilities.
  • Investigate production issues across multiple systems and trace failed messages to their root cause.
  • Use AI tools hands-on in real engineering work, applying sound judgment about where they help and where they get in the way.
