Responsibilities:
- Spearhead the design and development of various sealing systems, such as weatherstrips, bulb seals, pinch weld seals, and secondary seals.
- Work closely with the exterior, closures, and glazing teams to ensure the seamless integration of sealing systems within the vehicle structure.
- Take full ownership of the sealing systems performance, ensuring water tightness, effective wind noise reduction, and meeting NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) targets.
- Lead and define key activities related to the Design Verification Plan (DVP) and Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) for sealing components.
- Collaborate with Tier 1 suppliers to ensure optimal design for manufacturing, appropriate material selection, and tooling feasibility.
- Drive the development and release of sealing component specifications, along with detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for production purposes.
- Supervise prototype and pre-production builds, conducting tests to evaluate fit, finish, water resistance, wind noise, and thermal properties.
- Manage root cause analysis of any sealing-related issues and ensure corrective actions are executed during the vehicle validation phase.
- Provide support during the launch phase to ensure that all sealing systems meet the required performance and quality standards.
- Oversee the scheduling and budgeting of sealing system components, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to financial constraints.
- Offer technical support to manufacturing teams, helping to resolve production-related issues with sealing systems.
- Lead design reviews and engage with cross-functional teams to align the sealing systems with broader vehicle goals.
- Ensure that all designs comply with relevant industry standards and best practices for sealing solutions and materials.
- Keep up with the latest developments in sealing technology, trends, and innovations within the automotive industry.
- Contribute to the continuous refinement of sealing design processes and methodologies.
Requirements:
- In-depth knowledge and expertise in automotive sealing systems, including a strong understanding of materials and manufacturing techniques.
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (such as Catia V6, NX, or similar tools) for designing and analyzing sealing components.
- Extensive experience managing the design and development of sealing systems from initial concept through to production.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
- Comprehensive understanding of NVH, water management systems, and techniques for reducing wind noise.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
- Meticulous attention to detail, with a strong focus on delivering components that are production-ready and meet high-quality standards.
- Hands-on experience with DVP, DFMEA, and other engineering validation processes.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and prioritize work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with global suppliers of automotive sealing systems and expertise in tooling supply chains.
