About the Position
We are seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer with specialized experience in e-commerce platforms, specifically Shopify, to take ownership of our online store from an external service provider. This individual will independently lead the technical handover, manage ongoing enhancements, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, business stakeholders, and data analytics teams.
The ideal candidate is well-versed in both front-end development and e-commerce best practices, possesses a deep understanding of Google Tag Manager and data analytics, and can make informed recommendations regarding Shopify-supported features vs. custom solutions. You should be confident working autonomously while also guiding QA, building quarter and sprint plans, managing timelines, and proactively raising risks and mitigation strategies.
What You'll Be Doing:
Technical Ownership:
  • Build and oversee the transition and technical handover plan for the Shopify website from an external vendor.
  • Independently manage and maintain the Shopify storefront, focusing on scalability, stability & user experience
Front-end Development:
  • Develop and optimize site functionality using JavaScript (likely vanilla JS), CSS, HTML, and Shopify Liquid template.
  • Implement best practices to ensure a seamless user experience, high site performance, and cross-browser compatibility.
Data and Analytics Integration:
  • Configure and manage Google Tag Manager to track user interactions and support data analytics requirements.
  • Work with data analytics and business intelligence teams to enable tracking, reporting, and actionable insights on user behavior.
Scrum mastering & Stakeholder Management:
  • Act as Scrum Master, leading a small cross-functional team that includes a Product Manager, QA, UI/UX designer, and Shopify implementer to ensure efficient project execution and alignment.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and data teams to understand requirements, prioritize projects, and communicate technical possibilities.
  • Create quarter plans, define timelines, and identify project risks, ensuring transparency and alignment across teams.
  • Ensure effective communication of project updates, risks, and timelines with all stakeholders.
  • Lead scrum ceremonies.
QA and Testing:
  • Manage and oversee a QA process to validate all front-end updates, changes, and new features.
  • Perform thorough testing to guarantee website stability, functionality, and user experience.
Shopify Expertise:
  • Offer insights into Shopifys capabilities, balancing built-in Shopify features with customizations to ensure efficient and effective solutions.
  • Stay updated on Shopify platform developments and recommend new tools and processes where appropriate.
Who You Are:
  • Experience: 3-5+ years in front-end development with at least 3 years focused on Shopify or e-commerce platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript (including vanilla JS), HTML, CSS, and experience with Shopify Liquid templating.
  • Experience with Shopify apps and third-party integrations.
  • Experience with Google Tag Manager and working with analytics/data tracking.
  • Familiarity with web performance optimization and cross-browser compatibilities and best practices.
  • Scrum mastering: Proven ability to create sprint plans, manage timelines, and communicate risks effectively.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments, especially with product managers and business stakeholders.
  • Autonomy: Capable of independent work, taking ownership of projects, and leading technical initiatives with minimal supervision.
