Work Hours: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM PST
Compensation: $108,000 – $140,000 base salary
Bonus & Benefits: Full benefits package + bonus

HireNow Staffing is partnering with a top-tier Am Law 50 firm to recruit a seasoned and skilled Senior Engineer, Unified Communications / Microsoft 365. This role is critical to the stability, security, and performance of the firms enterprise messaging and collaboration environment and requires deep, hands-on expertise across Microsoft 365 and email systems.
This is a long-term, core engineering role. Candidates with primarily contract, temporary, or freelance backgrounds will not be considered.
The Opportunity
This role owns the end-to-end architecture, operations, and reliability of enterprise Unified Communications and messaging services. You will serve as a senior technical authority for Microsoft 365—particularly Exchange Online and hybrid email environments—ensuring seamless email delivery, secure collaboration, and resilient system performance across the firm.
The ideal candidate brings expert-level knowledge of the complete email lifecycle, strong automation skills, and the ability to lead complex troubleshooting efforts in a highly regulated, high-availability environment.
Role Overview
As Senior Engineer, Unified Communications / M365, you will architect, support, and continuously improve the firm's collaboration and messaging platforms. You will partner closely with security, infrastructure, and application teams while providing Tier 3/4 escalation support and technical leadership across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform the following responsibilities to be considered for interview:

Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing support of Unified Communications solutions, with a primary focus on Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online/Hybrid

Serve as the subject matter expert for enterprise email architecture, including routing, authentication, deliverability, and message hygiene

Administer and support email security platforms, including:
-
Proofpoint (DLP, encryption, TAP, routing, and policy management)
-
Metadact for metadata scrubbing, compliance, and secure content handling
-

Manage and troubleshoot the full email lifecycle, including:
-
DNS configuration
-
SMTP relays
-
Connectors and transport rules
-
Message tracking and diagnostics
-
-
Oversee hybrid Exchange configurations, coexistence strategies, connectors, and migration activities
-
Provide Tier 3/4 escalation support for complex UC and messaging issues
-
Partner with security, infrastructure, and identity teams to ensure secure, resilient services
-
Develop and maintain system documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks
-
Contribute to UC strategy, roadmap planning, and lifecycle management
-
Participate in audits, risk assessments, and policy development related to messaging and collaboration systems
Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)
Candidates must meet all of the following to be considered:

7+ years of experience in Unified Communications, Messaging, or Microsoft 365 engineering roles

Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and hybrid Exchange architectures

Deep understanding of email flow end to end, including:
-
DNS
-
SMTP
-
SPF / DKIM / DMARC
-
TLS
-
Routing topologies
-

Hands-on experience with Proofpoint email security solutions

Working proficiency with Metadact or similar metadata-scrubbing tools
-
Strong experience diagnosing and resolving complex UC and messaging issues

Solid knowledge of identity and security technologies, including:

Azure AD

OAuth
-
Conditional Access
-
MFA
-

Proficiency with PowerShell or similar scripting tools for automation and system administration

Strong job stability and long-term employment history
-
Ability to work the required 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM PST schedule
Preferred Qualifications (Strongly Emphasized)
Candidates meeting these criteria will receive priority consideration.

Experience with telephony / VoIP platforms, such as Microsoft Teams Phone, Cisco, Avaya, or similar

Working knowledge of SharePoint Online, including permissions, site architecture, and administration

Proven experience leading projects and mentoring junior engineers

Relevant certifications, such as:

Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator

MS-100 / MS-203 or MCSE
-
Proofpoint Certified Specialist

Other UC or security certifications

Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
