Role Summary
This position combines direct outpatient infectious disease care with medical oversight responsibilities. The Physician Medical Director is accountable for clinical quality, productivity alignment, and physician extender supervision while maintaining a strong patient-centered presence.
The role requires full-time, on-site clinical leadership in the Greater Austin area.
Core Clinical & Leadership Responsibilities
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to:
  • Deliver comprehensive outpatient infectious disease care while maintaining productivity benchmarks.
  • Independently diagnose and manage complex infectious conditions, including HIV and related comorbidities.
  • Provide structured oversight to advanced practice providers, including chart reviews and case guidance.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and timely E&M coding compliance.
  • Interpret laboratory findings, imaging, and specialist reports efficiently.
  • Maintain consistent follow-up on prescription renewals and patient communications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to optimize patient throughput and retention.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as assigned.
  • Allocate administrative time to oversight, quality review, and compliance initiatives.
  • Uphold regulatory standards and medical board requirements.
Interview consideration requires clear evidence of prior outpatient leadership or supervisory experience.
Required Qualifications (Strictly Enforced)
The following are mandatory:
  • MD or DO degree.
  • Active and unrestricted Texas medical license (or eligibility prior to start).
  • Active DEA registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years of outpatient clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated infectious disease physician experience.
  • Experience managing 14–18 patients per day in a structured outpatient setting.
  • CPR/BLS certification.
  • AAHIVM certification obtained or willingness to obtain within 18 months of hire.
  • Board certification (or board eligibility with certification timeline).
Immediate Disqualifiers:
  • No infectious disease experience.
  • No outpatient care background.
  • Inability to meet patient volume expectations.
  • History of malpractice or active disciplinary action.
  • Frequent short-term employment without clear advancement.
Preferred Qualifications (Strongly Valued)
While not mandatory, the following will significantly strengthen candidacy:
  • 5+ years of outpatient infectious disease experience.
  • Experience supervising PAs or NPs.
  • Familiarity with productivity-based clinical environments.
  • Experience managing chronic disease in high-volume primary care-adjacent settings.
  • Comfort with performance metrics and quality reporting frameworks.
Preferred qualifications will be weighed heavily in final interview selection.
