What You'll Do

As the facility's primary dental provider, you'll oversee and perform all aspects of dental care with a focus on prevention, treatment, and education. You'll work autonomously, yet collaboratively, within a multidisciplinary medical team and lead the charge on maintaining clinical quality, operational compliance, and a safe, respectful environment.

Key Duties Include:

  • Deliver comprehensive dental care including:

    • Routine exams, oral screenings, and preventive treatments

    • Simple and complex extractions

    • Anterior and premolar root canals

    • Denture fittings and restorative work (fillings, crowns, etc.)

  • Diagnose dental conditions and formulate patient-centered treatment plans

  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, disease prevention, and post-procedure care

  • Maintain accurate, compliant, and confidential clinical records and treatment documentation

  • Oversee dental support staff and maintain accountability for care quality and infection control

  • Monitor supply inventory, ensure secure handling of instruments and medications

  • Coordinate specialty referrals, external dental services, and contracted providers as needed

  • Participate in case reviews, facility audits, safety briefings, and accreditation processes

  • Provide court-related documentation or testimony if legally required (support provided)

Qualifications & Traits for Success

  • DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school

  • Active and unrestricted California dental license (required)

  • At least 1 year of post-graduate clinical experience (private practice, public health, military, or correctional setting preferred)

  • Ability to remain composed and confident in a secure-care environment

  • Strong charting, diagnostic, and chairside communication skills

  • Willingness to collaborate with medical and mental health staff for integrated care delivery

  • Prior correctional, public health, or underserved care experience is a plus, but not required

  • Valid driver's license preferred (some facilities may require this for credentialing or access)
