Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Supervision: Manage and supervise nursing staff, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations.
  • Patient Care: Ensure high-quality patient care through effective nursing practices and adherence to clinical standards.
  • Operational Management: Oversee daily operations of the nursing department, ensuring efficient and effective workflow.
  • Training and Development: Identify training needs and provide ongoing education and development opportunities for nursing staff.
  • Compliance: Ensure all nursing activities comply with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, physicians, and hospital leadership to coordinate care and optimize resources.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Nursing or related field; Masters degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience with at least 2 year in a supervisory role.
  • Licensure: Current RN license in the state of Iowa or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with a proven ability to manage and develop nursing staff.
  • Certifications: Current BCLS certification

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Nursing/House Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the management of nursing personnel. This role involves leading, coaching, facilitating, and assisting by providing counsel and direction. The Nursing/House Supervisor is visible, accessible, and actively engaged in supporting staff on a daily basis.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Quality Assurance: Actively participate in QA/PI projects to meet regulatory compliance.
  • Infection Control: Follow ORHC infection control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Policy Adherence: Serve as an example to staff by adhering to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Actively participate in the development and accomplishment of hospital regulatory compliance.
  • Scheduling: Facilitate the scheduling process and adjust schedules to meet hospital needs.
  • Leadership: Provide fair and consistent leadership to all departments.
  • Communication: Convey QI, risk, and safety concerns to the department Director and quality department.
  • Reporting: Complete variance reports or statements of concern appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Patient Care: Participate in Individualized Patient Care by verifying whiteboards and other patient satisfaction criteria are being used.
  • Emergency Response: Notify staff of emergency call-in situations and operate within the designs of established hospital procedures in emergencies, including using the hospital's emergency plan, HICs, and NIMS when appropriate.
  • Administrator Communication: Notify the Administrator on call of any issues beyond your capacity or any unusual events.
  • Teamwork: Communicate clearly and positively with co-workers to promote teamwork.
  • Patient Privacy: Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Problem Solving: Act as a resource to solve problems.
