Overview

HireNow Staffing is seeking a high-impact Nurse Manager to lead the Emergency Department of a regional hospital serving the heart of southwest Virginia. If you're a seasoned ED nurse with 5+ years of clinical experience and ready to step into a strategic, regulatory-compliant leadership role, this opportunity could be the right fit.

Our client is a 175-bed acute care hospital committed to clinical excellence, innovation, and community-centered care. The ED sees a diverse patient population and requires a manager who can handle real-time decision-making, resource management, and team accountability.

Minimum Qualifications (Do Not Apply Without These)

Current Virginia RN license (must be active at the time of hire)
BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (required by hire date or within initial 30 days)
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required
Minimum 5 years of hands-on Emergency Room experience
Demonstrated understanding of regulatory compliance, triage protocols, and clinical risk management
Proven ability to train, lead, and evaluate clinical staff in a high stakes setting

Preferred (Highly Competitive Candidates Will Also Have):

  • Master's degree (MSN, MHA, or MBA strongly preferred)

  • Supervisory or managerial experience within an Emergency Department

  • Experience with policy development, staff education, and compliance audits

  • Exposure to community outreach or public health initiatives related to emergency care

  • Ability to train/coach staff on changes in triage protocols, care pathways, or trauma readiness

What You'll Be Responsible For

Department Operations & Oversight

  • Direct the clinical and administrative operations of the Emergency Department, including budget management, productivity tracking, and shift staffing.

  • Oversee compliance with all local, state, and federal healthcare regulations.

  • Respond to daily unit challenges and escalate concerns to the CNO or hospital leadership when necessary.

Team Leadership & Performance Management

  • Serve as the primary leader and coach for the ED nursing team assessing staff competency, handling performance reviews, and promoting a collaborative work culture.

  • Partner with the Education Coordinator to ensure annual competencies, continuing education, and new-hire orientation.

  • Monitor and address patient satisfaction trends and service recovery efforts.

Clinical Quality & Improvement

  • Lead quality assurance initiatives and participate in audits, risk management, and data analysis to track department performance.

  • Ensure ED adherence to infection control protocols, HCAHPS metrics, and time-to-treatment benchmarks.

  • Create action plans following patient incidents, medication errors, or process breakdowns.

Strategic Department Development

  • Collaborate with executive leadership on departmental goals, strategic planning, and emergency preparedness.

  • Represent the ED in interdepartmental meetings and community health efforts.

  • Evaluate equipment needs, bed utilization, and workflow bottlenecks and recommend upgrades or redesigns.
