Must-Haves No Exceptions
️ Active RN license in Iowa or a multistate compact license
️ Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
️ BCLS certification must be current and verifiable
️ Iowa Mandatory Reporter Certificates (Child and Dependent Adult Abuse) required by start date
️ Must be available for full-time schedule with flexibility for rotating weekends/holidays
️ Documented ability to manage 56 patients per shift safely and efficiently
Preferred But Not Required
⭐ Previous Med/Surg or Telemetry experience highly preferred
⭐ Familiarity with EPIC or similar EMR systems
⭐ Charge or preceptor experience is a plus
⭐ Strong understanding of med-surg pharmacology and care protocols
What You'll Do Daily Responsibilities
As a Med Surg RN in Ottumwa, you're at the frontline of patient care, providing holistic, evidence-based nursing to a diverse adult inpatient population. You'll be expected to:

Complete head-to-toe assessments and individualized care plans

Administer meds safely and timely using the 10 Rights of Medication Administration

Accurately document assessments, interventions, responses, and education
-
Recognize and escalate changes in patient conditions with clinical urgency

Coordinate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and aides
-
Manage IVs, wound care, catheter care, post-op recovery, and telemetry monitoring
-
Educate patients and families on discharge needs, medications, and health literacy

Maintain clean documentation, reduce variance reports, and meet core measures
-
Assist in rapid response or code situations as needed

Be a team player who can help a colleague, manage stress, and stay solutions-focused

Provide input into QI efforts and performance improvement initiatives
