About the Role
HireNow Staffing is seeking an experienced and detail-driven Tool and Die Maker to join a leading metal manufacturing team based in Chicago. What You'll Be Doing
Tool Building & Maintenance

Analyze blueprints and plan tooling layouts

Build, modify, and maintain cutting tools, jigs, dies, and fixtures

Set up and operate manual machines (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.)

Use surface plates, micrometers, and comparators to ensure tolerances are spot-on
️ Machining & Assembly

Lay out and measure metal stock for machining

Operate 4-slides and related production equipment

Assemble complex tooling and mechanisms with precision

Use hand tools, gauges, and CAD drawings to bring tools to spec
Inspection & Troubleshooting

Perform quality checks and ensure compliance with manufacturing standards

Diagnose tooling problems and develop on-the-spot solutions
-
Maintain clean and organized workstations and return all tools to proper storage
-
Track and report tooling effectiveness, first-piece inspections, and statistical data
Collaboration & Documentation
-
Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and production teams
-
Document changes, updates, and tool designs
-
Follow all safety protocols and contribute to process improvements
Must-Have Experience & Skills
-
Minimum 5 years of tool design/build experience
-
At least 1 year of experience working with 4-slides
-
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, tool schematics, and tight tolerances
-
Proficiency in manual machining (CNC skills a plus)
-
Strong math skills, including geometry and trigonometry
-
Ability to use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related precision tools
-
Fluent in English (oral and written communication)
Nice-to-Haves

TMA Certificate
-
Background in coal heading, small stamping, or wire forming
-
Experience working with flat metal (1 inch wide or smaller)

Familiarity with AutoCAD, EDM, or Haas Machines
