Your Core Responsibilities

  • Litigation & Courtroom Advocacy: Represent clients in criminal defense and civil proceedings, including preliminary hearings, motions, and trials.

  • Client-Centered Counsel: Provide compassionate, strategic legal advice to individuals navigating complex, often traumatic, circumstances.

  • Case Strategy & Preparation: Draft pleadings, legal motions, and briefs; conduct discovery and prepare for hearings or settlement negotiations.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with community stakeholders, treatment professionals, and social service providers as part of a holistic legal strategy.

  • Justice Reform Contribution: Support the firm's mission to promote equitable legal outcomes through trauma-informed and culturally competent representation.

Ideal Background

Preferred Experience & Qualities:

  • 2+ years in litigation criminal defense, prosecution, or public defender roles highly preferred

  • Experience working with individuals affected by substance use, mental health, or trauma

  • Attorneys with military service (JAG or equivalent) or government agency work are strongly encouraged to apply

  • Admission to the Kansas Bar (or eligibility and willingness to pursue Kansas licensure)

  • Strong legal writing, courtroom advocacy, and case management skills

  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-caseload environments

  • A heart for public service and commitment to restorative justice

Relocation & Licensing

  • Attorneys with 5+ years of practice in any U.S. jurisdiction can become quickly licensed in Kansas

  • Relocation expenses are available especially for those moving from out-of-state
