Job Description

  • Lead the design and development of SMT processes for the efficient and reliable assembly of electronic components onto PCBs.
  • Develop requirement specifications, system concepts, detailed drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Create layouts for complex assemblies and detailed mechanical and electronic components.
  • Implement changes to product design and/or manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Continuously evaluate SMT production processes to improve throughput, reduce cycle time, and minimize defects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot process issues, manage equipment upgrades, set up processes, and establish optimized process parameters.
  • Develop and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEA) for all critical processes.
  • Identify root causes of technical issues and drive effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Establish and implement quality control procedures specific to SMT processes.
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues to ensure compliance with customer and industry standards.
  • Support internal and external audits with relevant documentation and corrective actions.
  • Conduct training for production and engineering teams on SMT processes, equipment handling, and best practices.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation including Process Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Work Instructions.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and implement lean initiatives to reduce material usage, waste, and overall production costs.
  • Monitor process KPIs and implement strategies to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Any other ad-hoc tasks assigned by the management.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in SMT process development and optimization within the electronics manufacturing industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of SMT technology, equipment (e.g., printers, pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens), and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in CAD tools for part and assembly design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis and process improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively across departments.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in a dynamic production environment.
  • Hands-on approach with strong involvement on the production floor.
  • Proficient in English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia, in order to have smooth conversation with external support team as well as internal team.
