We’re looking for Cashiers to join our team at Jerk at Nite! As a Cashier, you are the first point of contact for our guests and play a crucial role in delivering a warm, friendly, and efficient experience. From taking and processing orders to handling payments and maintaining a clean, organized workspace, you help ensure smooth operations and great customer service. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a team-first attitude.

About Jerk at Nite

When late-night food options on Howard University’s campus failed to meet the needs of students pulling all-nighters, working on projects, and attending campus events, Jerk at Nite stepped in to fill the gap. We believe that authentic, hearty, and health-conscious food should be available at any hournot just pizza, fast food, or takeout loaded with preservatives.

That’s why we serve Jamaican-infused dishes with an exotic mix of Mexican and American soul food flavorsoffering a better, bolder, and healthier late-night alternative. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for Cashiers to help us maintain our commitment to quality food, excellent service, and strong community connections.

Position Responsibilities

PEOPLE: Guest Service & Teamwork

• Greet guests warmly and guide them through the ordering process

• Provide friendly and efficient service while processing orders and payments

• Suggest menu items and offer recommendations based on guest preferences

• Answer phone calls professionally, assisting with orders and guest inquiries

• Work collaboratively with the team to keep operations running smoothly

PRODUCTS: Order Accuracy & Sales

• Ensure all orders are taken and processed accurately

• Follow cash handling policies, carefully processing payments and deposits

• Maintain knowledge of the menu, allergens, and dietary restrictions to assist guests

PLACE: Cleanliness & Organization

• Keep the cashier station, dining area, and counters clean and stocked

• Ensure guest areas are tidyclear trays, wipe surfaces, and check on customer needs

• Assist with preparing, stocking, and restocking items as needed

PROFIT: Food Safety & Efficiency

• Follow all food safety protocols, including proper handwashing and cross-contamination prevention

• Be detail-oriented and careful when entering orders and handling money

• Notify a manager immediately if there are any issues with food quality, equipment, or guest concerns

What We’re Looking For

Previous experience in customer service, cashiering, or food service preferred
Strong communication and multitasking skills
Ability to handle cash and follow payment procedures accurately
Energetic, friendly, and professional demeanor
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs as needed
