We’re looking for Kitchen Production Cooks to join our team at Jerk at Nite! As a Kitchen Production Cook, you will be responsible for cooking side and entrée dishes, managing production flow, and ensuring kitchen efficiency throughout your shift. This role requires strong multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, and experience with a variety of cooking techniques and ingredients. You will also be responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitized kitchen and ensuring all food is stored properly. When late-night food options on Howard University’s campus failed to meet the needs of students pulling all-nighters, working on projects, and attending campus events, Jerk at Nite stepped in to fill the gap. We believe that authentic, hearty, and health-conscious food should be available at any hournot just pizza, fast food, or takeout loaded with preservatives.

That’s why we serve Jamaican-infused dishes with an exotic mix of Mexican and American soul food flavorsoffering a better, bolder, and healthier late-night alternative. Position Responsibilities

PEOPLE: Teamwork & Kitchen Support

  • Work closely with the Kitchen Manager and fellow kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations

  • Be in constant communication with the line cooks, wing station, and expeditor to maintain food flow and timely service

  • Maintain a high-energy, collaborative environment in the kitchen

PRODUCTS: Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and equipment

  • Prepare, cook, and manage the production of side dishes and main entrées, including:
    • Pasta

    • Mac and cheese

    • Rice and peas

    • White rice

    • Cabbage

    • Plantains

    • Oxtail

    • Curry goat/chicken

    • Brown stew chicken

    • Dine-in and seasonal menu items

  • Use various cooking methods (grilling, baking, boiling, frying, and sautéing)

  • Monitor food quality, stirring, turning, and adjusting seasoning as needed

  • Ensure proper plating and presentation before serving

PLACE: Cleanliness & Organization

  • Keep a sanitized and orderly kitchen at all times

  • Ensure all ingredients are properly labeled and stored

  • Monitor line stock and ensure the cooking line is continuously refilled

  • Assist with kitchen deep cleaning and maintenance as assigned

PROFIT: Efficiency & Food Safety

  • Follow all sanitation and food handling procedures

  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and organization in food preparation areas

  • Ensure all food is properly cooled and stored according to safety guidelines

  • Assist with minimizing food waste and improving production flow

What We’re Looking For

Minimum 1 year of experience in food preparation for a restaurant
At least 6 months of experience in a similar role
Proven experience as a cook, with knowledge of cooking procedures and methods
Ability to handle cutting tools, cookware, and kitchen equipment
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work standing for extended periods (up to 10 hours)
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, reach, and stoop frequently
Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
