As a Special Systems Lead, you will be involved in the design, implementation, and optimization of essential special systems that support operations.
This includes elements for Structured Cabling, Comms, Security, ICT FLS/PAVA, BMS etc., all while ensuring safety, functionality, and regulatory compliance in a high-demand airport environment.
Responsibility:
- Lead the planning, delivery and integration of specialized systems, including SCN, VSS, SACS, ICT, GSM, TETRA etc.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure these systems meet specific operational requirements, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve project documents Plans, Method statements, Material submittals, samples, RFI's, Cable management schedule, warranty documents, O&M, as built and shop drawings etc.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and other project teams to ensure timely delivery, quality control, and system integration with other airport infrastructure.
- Supervise and monitor the contractors work on site, ensure adherence to approved document, drawings, method statement and safety procedures
- Provide regular updates and reports on the status of special systems to senior management and key stakeholders.
- Provide field verification of the installation through witnessing and testing. Ensure that the installation, commissioning and integration of special systems meet all functional, operational, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare for and lead the testing and commissioning of special systems to ensure they are fully functional and compliant with all performance specifications.
- Optimize system performance through continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, and adjustments, ensuring minimal downtime and operational disruptions.
- Work closely with stakeholders and operational teams to ensure that specialized systems are aligned with operational needs and enhance overall efficiency and security.
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for special systems, including design specifications, system configurations, testing results, and regulatory compliance records.
- Address challenges related to special systems and ensured their integration into the overall airport management system.
- Ensure that all special systems comply with local, national, and international safety standards and regulations (e.g., fire safety codes, security standards, etc.).
- Conduct risk assessments and lead efforts to identify and mitigate potential issues related to system safety and functionality.
- Ensure team members are up to date with the latest technologies, industry's best practices, and relevant regulations.
- Promote the use of sustainable and energy-efficient solutions in the design and implementation of special systems.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and innovations in special systems and implement new solutions to enhance airport operations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or a related field. Master's degree or relevant certifications preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in special systems management, with at least 5 years in the airport or transportation infrastructure sector
- Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing critical systems such as security, communications, PAVA and materials handling.
- Strong understanding of the integration of these systems into broader airport infrastructure.
- Expertise in project management and the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with relevant local, national, and international safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in a timely manner.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage teams and engage stakeholders effectively.
- Certification in Project Management (PMP or equivalent)
- Experience with sustainable and energy-efficient technologies in special systems design
