Position Summary:
The Master Planning and Urban Design Specialist leads the development and implementation of master plans and urban design strategies for residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects, ensuring innovative, sustainable, and client-focused solutions. They coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, conduct site analyses, engage with communities, and manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to achieve successful project delivery. Additionally, they mentor junior staff, stay current with industry trends and regulations, and present plans and designs effectively to clients and stakeholders.
General Description of Role and Responsibilities:Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement master planning and urban design strategies for a variety of projects, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
- Conduct site analysis and research to identify opportunities and constraints for development.
- Prepare and present master plans, concept designs, and other visual materials to clients and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that master plans and urban designs are feasible and meet project goals.
- Conduct public engagement and consultation processes to gather feedback and incorporate community input into master plans.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulations related to master planning and urban design.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
- Mentor and train junior staff members in master planning and urban design principles and techniques.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in master planning and urban design, preferably in a consulting or design firm.
- Strong understanding of urban design principles, land use planning, and zoning regulations.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas to clients and stakeholders.
- Proven project management experience, including managing budgets, schedules, and resources.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Knowledge of sustainability principles and LEED certification is a plus.
- Professional certifications, such as AICP or LEED AP, are desirable.
