General Description of Role and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all activities safely, in accordance with safety rules and policies, to prevent harm to self and others.
  • Company compliance with the requirements of environmental permits, licenses, and regulations, focusing on monitoring, record-keeping and reporting requirements.
  • Effectively communicate with site personnel regarding regulatory obligations. Complete permitting activities in a timely manner by soliciting and gathering necessary information from affected operational departments, and submitting complete applications, to minimize permitting delays and ensure that company operations and projects are not hindered.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with regulators and government agencies to foster a working relationship that minimizes adversarial actions, enforcement actions and penalties.
  • Coordinate and manage environmental projects, including contractor and consultant activities.
  • Conduct regular inspections, in accordance with the Environmental Department procedures, of company operations to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Monitor proposed environmental regulatory changes and with an eye to their effect on operations and demands on resources (personnel, financial).
  • Inform the Manager, Environmental Department, immediately of any compliance or permitting issues that may affect the company.
  • Ensure that departmental and company goals are achieved by participating in short and long-range planning activities.
  • As a member of the department, provide environmental awareness training to site employees. Comply with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Meet or exceed the performance expectations established by management.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • A bachelors degree in environmental engineering (preferred) or Civil Engineering.
  • Five years work experience in the environmental industry preferred.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management, regulators and governmental agencies.
  • Able to describe environmental regulatory requirements to a diverse workforce.
  • Able to work independently to manage workload and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Strong technical engineering knowledge.
  • Good understanding of low-carbon building solutions.
  • Design skills and product assessment skills.
  • Good report writing skills
