Job Description:

This position is responsible for growing the Tax practice by providing practical tax advice to clients, building relationships with existing clients and prospects to expand the practice, and development and training of team. In this role, the Manager will be expected to have marketable technical skills and have a proven track record of being a problem solver and maintaining key client relationships. Essential Functions and Primary Duties:

  • Serve as clients trusted advisor, demonstrates knowledge of industry trends, identify client issues and conflicts: proactively communicate solution options to client and team.
  • Plans and reviews the tax process and the procedures to be performed to include:  
  • Budgeting and staffing.
  • Monitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget.
  • Timely billing including management of identified out-of-scope activity and communication to client.
  • Timely collection of A/R.
  • Manages client relationships/expectations in accordance with the project.
  • Ensures both that clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens.
  • Monitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget.
  • Conducts top-level review of Tax Return and resolves all tax issues with the client.
  • Provides advice to clients in a timely manner.
  • Timely billing including management of identified out-of-scope activity and communication to the client.
  • Identifies when research is needed; clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched; and clearly and concisely reports the analysis.
  • Assists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients current and future taxes.
  • Develops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation, e.g., individual, corporate, property, sales, corporate, pass-through, state, and local, international.
  • Assists to organize and conduct effective internal CPE training sessions.
  • Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits.
  • Reviews studies of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of action.
  • Identifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects and offers input on how to improve processes and methods.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects.
  • Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provide review comments.
  • Trains Associates and Seniors how to use all current software tools.
  • Schedules and manages the workload of associates and senior associates.
  • Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates.
Education:
  • Bachelors degree, required; Accounting degree preferred
  • Masters Degree, preferred
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Eight to Ten years of prior experience in corporate tax, pass-through entities, and high-net worth individual clients required
  • Experience in International, Estate, and Gift Tax preferred
  • Prior experience supervising and training tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, required 
License/Certifications:
  • CPA certification or EA required
Software:
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, required
  • Proficient in UltraTax or Similar Program, QuickBooks, and Practice Management Programs required.

  • Self-starter, conscientious with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact on assigned engagements
  • Superior analytical and tax research skills including building models and analysis of financial and numerical data
  • Advanced understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation and law
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of general calculations and cause / effect for taxable conditions on clients and the potential tax issues
  • Excellent organizational skills, especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Capable of effectively managing a team of tax professionals and delegating work assignments as needed
  • Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with internal team and clients
  • Ability contribute to the professional development of assigned personnel
  • Strong business development skills and the ability to convert prospect inquiries to client engagements
  • Willingness and ability to assist in marketing efforts such as educating clients via seminars and written communications, external practice development activities, and other business development activities
