You've tested it, you know it works, but you're stuck waiting for approval from a committee that doesn't understand the first thing about code.

Maybe you've been part of a team, working on a minuscule fragment of a colossal puzzle. But there's another frustration that's becoming just as real: the way work gets done has fundamentally changed, and most companies haven't caught up. AI isn't a feature to add later — it's the engine that drives how the best teams ship today. At HeyMax, this isn't limited to engineering. From product and design to operations and business development, we're building an AI-augmented company where every team moves faster. On the engineering side, that means AI-augmented workflows end-to-end: from spec generation and architecture design to implementation, testing, and code review. The result? A lean team that ships with the velocity of one three times its size.

Yet most orgs are still stuck. Engineers writing boilerplate by hand, debugging without AI assistance, treating LLMs as glorified autocomplete. Tech leads running the same playbooks from 2020 — manual code reviews as bottlenecks, waterfall-ish sprint planning, and no systematic approach to integrating AI into how the company operates.

If you're the kind of engineer who's already using Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools to radically accelerate your own output — and you're frustrated that the teams around you aren't doing the same — HeyMax is where you come to fix that at the team level.

We're looking for a Tech Lead who doesn't just use AI tools personally, but knows how to set up frameworks, workflows, and culture so that every engineer on the team is shipping 3-5x faster with AI assistance.

What You'll Do

• Architect AI-Augmented Workflows: Design and implement development workflows where AI is deeply integrated — from spec-to-code pipelines, AI-assisted code review, to automated testing generation. You'll define how the team builds software in the AI era.
• Multiply Team Output Through AI: Set up frameworks, tooling, and best practices so every engineer leverages AI effectively. This isn't about mandating tools — it's about creating an environment where AI-assisted development is the natural, efficient default.
• Make High-Leverage Technical Decisions: Own architecture, tech stack, and process decisions across our platform. You'll balance speed with quality, knowing when to let AI handle the heavy lifting and when human judgment is critical.
• Stay Hands-On: You'll be in the code daily. We believe the best tech leads maintain deep technical context by building alongside their team, not managing from a distance.
• Build and Elevate the Team: Recruit, mentor, and grow engineers who thrive in an AI-augmented environment. Foster a culture where continuous learning and rapid experimentation are the norm.
• Ship Real Impact: At HeyMax, you won't be optimizing a tiny corner of a massive system. You'll work across the full stack — mobile, backend, infrastructure, data — on problems that directly affect 100,000+ users across multiple markets.
• Drive Continuous Innovation: Evaluate and adopt new AI tools, models, and methodologies as they emerge. The landscape is moving fast, and you'll keep HeyMax at the cutting edge.

Responsibilities

With great power comes great responsibility. Here's what you'll own:

• Define the AI-First Development Playbook: Establish how the team uses AI across the entire development lifecycle — spec generation, implementation, code review, testing, and deployment. Create reusable prompts, workflows, and guardrails that make AI-assisted development reliable and scalable.
• Lead and Inspire: Guide your team through complex technical challenges, inspire them to push boundaries, and foster a culture where experimentation with AI tools is encouraged and celebrated.
• Hands-On Coding: Build features and systems alongside your team. Demonstrate AI-augmented development by example — show what's possible when a senior engineer pairs effectively with AI.
• Own Architecture & Technical Direction: Make critical decisions on system design, tech stack, and infrastructure. Ensure our architecture supports rapid iteration and can scale across Singapore, Hong Kong, and Indonesia.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with product, design, and business teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Bridge the gap between what AI makes possible and what the business needs.
• Drive Engineering Excellence: Establish quality standards, observability practices, and incident response procedures. Balance shipping speed with reliability — AI helps you move fast, but you ensure nothing breaks.
• Build the Team's AI Muscle: Onboard engineers into AI-augmented workflows, share effective patterns, and continuously raise the bar on how the team leverages AI. Turn individual AI proficiency into team-wide capability.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong technical depth in one or more areas: Mobile (React Native), Backend, Infrastructure, Data, or AI.
• AI-Augmented Development Experience: You actively use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) in your daily workflow and have opinions on how to make teams effective with them. This isn't a nice-to-have — it's core to the role.
• Proven Technical Leadership: Track record as a Tech Lead or similar role, having led projects from conception to completion. You've made architecture decisions that stood the test of scale.
• Systems Thinking: You can design end-to-end workflows, not just write code. You think about how specs get written, how code gets reviewed, how tests get generated, and how to optimize the entire pipeline.
• Technical Breadth: Proficient in multiple programming languages and familiar with modern tech stacks. You're always learning and adapting to new tools and practices.
• Leadership & Communication: You can inspire a team, make tough calls under ambiguity, and clearly convey complex technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bonus: Experience with fintech, loyalty/rewards systems, or multi-region deployments across Southeast Asia.
