Role Overview

The Protection Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning support of protection systems for medium- and high-voltage substations serving data center and industrial projects. The role involves developing protection schemes, configuring numerical relays, performing protection coordination studies, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop HV/MV protection schemes, philosophies, and specifications.

Configure and set protection relays (ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric) based on power system studies.

Perform protection coordination, short-circuit, and related protection studies.

Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), site testing, and commissioning activities.

Collaborate with power systems, secondary design, and SCADA engineering teams to ensure integrated and compliant solutions.

Prepare and review protection engineering documentation and technical deliverables.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in protection engineering for HV/MV substations.
  • Experience with protection relay configuration, settings calculations, and commissioning support.
  • Experience in data center or industrial projects is advantageous.
  • Protection relay tools: ABB PCM600, Siemens DIGSI 5, Schneider Electric MiCOM S1.
  • Power system software: ETAP and/or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Knowledge of protection coordination, relay settings, CT/VT specification, and protection standards.
  • Familiarity with EPLAN, AutoCAD, and relay test equipment such as Omicron or Doble.
  • Understanding of IEC and IEEE standards.
